Reduction of wave-induced pitch motion of a semi-sub wind platform by balancing heave excitation with pumping between floats

چکیده
Abstract It is desirable to control pitch motion of semi-submersible wind platforms reduce turbine hub acceleration and increase structural fatigue life. This achieved by balancing the moment on platform due heave float excitation generating a differential internal head water between floats though pump. demonstrated with an experimentally validated linear diffraction-radiation-drag model idealised platform. Different scales are considered corresponding 5, 10 20 MW turbines. The angles accelerations generally as increase. Pumping reduces up about 40% for larger sea states. power required pumping would be small hybrid pump also operating store energy operation. Without storage requirement still relative capacity except very high speeds.

Improvement of the heave motion of a semi-submersible platform with damping sheets subjected to sea waves
In this study, the damping sheets were attached to a semi-submersible platform to mitigate the heave motions. We first examined a typical GVA4000 semi-sub under a monochromatic linear wave train in deep water. an analytical method based on diffraction theory was used to determine the heave motion response. The results revealed that the analytical results show good agreement with available exper...

Serviceability of buildings is affected by excessive acceleration experienced at the top floors in wind storms that may cause discomfort to the occupants. To ensure functional performance of tall buildings it is important to keep the frequency of objectionable motion levels below the discomfort threshold. This paper addresses a new approach that facilitates mitigation of wind induced motion of ...
